San Luisito Taqueria: a northern-style experience in CDMX

On a corner of Insurgentes Sur #300, you will find San Luisito Taqueria, a small stand that brings a little piece of the north of the country to the gastronomic chaos of Mexico City. Its concept is simple but effective: morning tacos served in flour tortillas, with stews that taste like home and bear the stamp of the recipes of northern moms.

I arrived on a Tuesday afternoon, just as the aroma of freshly warmed tortillas was beginning to flood the street. The menu is not extensive, but each option feels like a taco hug. We tried the chicharron in salsa, the bean and cheese, and the beef barbacoa. Everything was on point, but what really makes the difference are the flour tortillas, soft and with that artisanal touch that makes them the stars of the show.

For those looking for veggie options, they have spectacular potatoes and the bean and cheese taquito that, although humble, doesn't need anything else to win you over.

The perfect ending to the experience is in the desserts. I tried them all because I have a sweet tooth: a Kequito de pan de elote, which had the perfect texture: fluffy and slightly sweet with a bitumen that hypnotized me. But what really stole my heart (and palate) was the Gloriadilla, a sweet quesadilla with traditional Gloria sweets from the north. It's a dessert that redefines the idea of a happy ending.

Beyond the food, what stands out about San Luisito Taqueria is the vibe. It's an unpretentious place where the flavors speak for themselves. Besides, what can make a northern taco better? Pairing it with a Topo Chico, of course, because here they know that small details make the difference.

If you're craving comfort food and transportation, San Luisito Taqueria is a must. Whether it's to cure the cruda or just to enjoy something that tastes like home, this place makes every bite a reminder that sometimes simple is best.
