La Chispita, a micro art space near Normal subway station

This new space of La Chispita wants to freely show its vision of design and art, outside the gallery circuit.

In the Tlaxpana neighborhood, very close to the Normal subway, La Chispita, a micro art space designed to showcase the work of artists, designers and cartoonists, has just opened. Inspired by grocery stores, the team of Buen Trabajo and Ediciones Hungría decided to open La Chispita with this aesthetic to blend in with the businesses on the same street.

Even though the white walls remind us of the general idea of a traditional art gallery, the La Chispita team tells us that they are not really looking to become a gallery formally, since they do not represent artists, do not charge commissions, and are outside of the city's art circuits.

The purpose of La Chispita is to freely show its vision of design and art, which began with the exhibition 'Bon ice triste' by ketsueki koibito, an artist from the State of Mexico who mixes characters from the Mexica culture, religious figures, anime and landscapes of the State of Mexico in his imaginary.

This La Chispita centerpiece is a PVC figure created in conjunction with koibito and Ediciones Hungría and is currently on sale by visiting the space.

For the time being, La Chispita's exhibitions and events will be focused on providing an outlet for projects that were conceived during the pandemic. According to the La Chispita team, the artists who present themselves are free to exhibit and use the space as they wish, since their stay at La Chispita is not necessarily linked to the collaboration they have made with Ediciones Hungría or Buen trabajo.
