Local Agenda: January 23 to 26

"The enormous city that fits in a room of three square meters as endless as a galaxy, the city that dreams us all and that we all make and unmake and remake as we dream, the city that we all dream and that changes endlessly as we dream it..." - I speak of the city of Octavio Paz (1986).

That said, here are the best things to do this weekend in the CDMX.

Rethinking German Romanticism 2: Paul de Man
January 23 - 18:00 pm
Donceles 104, Historic Center

Paul de Man, a key figure in 20th century literary theory, dismantled the fundamental assumptions of romanticism, rethinking the relationship between language, identity and nature. In works such as The Rhetoric of Romanticism, he analyzed how romantic texts, far from reconciling mind and world, reveal the instability of meaning and the fragility of identity.

With a critical and ironic approach, de Man confronted the tensions between symbol and allegory, revealing the paradoxes of a movement that aspired to totality. This lecture will be given by literary critic Christopher Domínguez Michael, member of El Colegio Nacional, as part of the series Great literary critics

January 24 - 20:00 to 21:00 pm

The film plays with autofiction and the exercise of self-direction to adapt to the screen a choreographic study on effort, insistence, rest and observation. The choreography of both the bodies and the camera explores the tensions between observing and being observed, between being hunter and prey.

After the screenings, Camila Arroyo and other guests will be in conversation about the creative process behind this collaborative work, which brings together artists such as Ricardo Daniel, Analía Goethals and Flavia Martínez.
